Experience hunting for medal-class mouflon in Croatia's wildest terrain.

Croatia offers magnificent mouflon hunting in a rugged and beautiful coastal environment where mountains meet the sea. The terrain is rocky and dramatic, and the hunt is a physical and exciting experience with impressive views of the Adriatic Sea. There are large populations of mouflon here, and both spring and fall offer excellent opportunities to bag older, medal-class rams.

Our local, English-speaking partner has extensive experience and manages the area with great care. The territory covers approximately 24,000 hectares, of which 4,000 hectares are dedicated to mouflon – and the quality of the game is clearly evident. The hunt is adapted to the season and temperature, with a focus on the best hunting opportunities.

Shooting fees

What is a Shooting fee:

A trapping fee is a cost incurred when a game animal is trapped during a hunting trip. The fee is often based on the animal's trophy size, species, sex, weight - for example, the shape of its horns or tusks. Trapping fees are a common part of hunting management in many countries and serve as an important incentive for responsible hunting.

Why are there Shooting fees:

Shooting fees are an important part of the setup of many of our trips, and they enable responsible and long-term wildlife management. The revenue from these fees is used by local hunting organizations to fund all their activities - from inventory and game management to land maintenance, staff salaries, game damage prevention and administration. Without shooting fees, it would be difficult to conduct hunting that is both sustainable and well-organized.

Important to consider:

The amount of the shooting fee depends on what is shot. In some cases, there is a fixed price per game, while in others it is determined by the type and size of the trophy. It is also important to note that in some cases, game shot or injured and not found may be subject to a fee.

And remember - hunting is hunting. There are no guarantees about what will happen during the hunting days. Game movements, weather conditions, hunting luck and other factors always come into play. This is what makes hunting alive, exciting and real.

Another important factor is the hunter's own skill. Experience, reaction time, accuracy and the ability to read the terrain vary greatly between different hunters. Our job is to create the best possible conditions through well-organized arrangements and experienced guides - but the hunt itself and the result are always on nature's and the hunter's terms.

On the payment of trap fees:

Payment is generally made as follows: When you return from your trip, you will receive a summary list of the game you have killed and the total amount of the trapping fees, in your booking portal. This sum must be paid within three days, unless otherwise agreed. The measurement of any trophies is usually done by the organizer and forms the basis of the final fee.

Our promise to you:

At Waidmann, transparency and security are always in focus. You will be fully informed about what is included in your hunting trip and what possible trapping fees may apply - no surprises. We only work with professional and reputable operators who work according to clear and ethical guidelines. You can rest assured that everything is correct, so you can focus on the hunt and the experience.

Mouflon hunting in Croatia

Challenging stalking in Croatia's coastal mountains

This hunt is perfect for hunters looking for a clear challenge in one of Europe's most distinctive hunting environments. The hunting grounds stretch across large areas of this barren terrain along Croatia's Adriatic coast. Here, rocky mountain slopes, steep sections, dense vegetation, and open rocky outcrops meet—an environment that requires both focus and endurance.

The hunt is conducted as pure Stalking is suitable for hunters with experience of stalking and a good ability to read the terrain. Mouflons are alert game and often move high up in the mountains, which makes the hunt challenging and tactically demanding. Older rams tend to stay in areas where both rocky terrain and differences in elevation make stalking difficult.

During spring, the bucks often move in larger herds, while autumn is characterized by rutting and more scattered individuals. Both periods offer excellent opportunities for medal-class hunting, but also different types of hunting experiences. The days are adapted to the season and temperature, and hunting takes place during the hours when the game is most active.

With a local, experienced guide at your side, you will gain valuable insights into the area and the animals' movement patterns. The terrain, wind, and coastal climate contribute to making each hunting day unique—sometimes quiet and slow, sometimes intense and fast-paced.

This is a hunt for those who appreciate the combination of physical challenge, careful stalking techniques, and the opportunity to hunt mouflon in one of Europe's most distinctive natural environments.

Daily program

Mouflon hunting on the Adriatic Sea – intense hunting days in Croatia's rugged and spectacular coastal terrain

Day 1: Departure for Croatia!

We arrive in Croatia, where our local guides meet us and take us to our accommodation near the hunting grounds in the Velebit Mountains. After checking in, there is time to settle in, unpack, and get ready for the coming days. In the evening, we go through the hunting plan and finish with a dinner together.

Days 2-4: The start of the hunting days

The hunt begins in the morning after breakfast. Together with our experienced guides, we venture out into the barren, rocky terrain where the mouflon live. The early hours provide excellent opportunities to encounter both small groups and solitary older rams, which often roam along the mountainsides.

At midday, we return to our accommodation for lunch and a rest. During the warmer months, we take a longer siesta to avoid the heat, while cooler periods allow for shorter breaks before we set off again.

In the afternoon, we continue the hunt when the animals become active again. The light over the coastal mountains and the open terrain make it easier to scan larger areas, and here we often get the chance to follow herds from a distance and work our way closer to the right ram. The combination of open cliffs and denser areas creates exciting opportunities to sneak up, read the terrain, and make the right decisions at the right moment.

In the evening, we gather at the accommodation for dinner and a review of the day's experiences. It is a natural way to round off the day, where we summarize our observations, plan for the next day, and share experiences from the sessions.

Day 5: We express our gratitude for this magical hunting adventure

After three intense and rewarding days of hunting, we enjoy a final breakfast together, check out, and begin our journey home with lasting impressions of the mouflon hunt and the unique nature of the Croatian coast.

The accommodation

Comfort close to hunting grounds

During your hunting trip, you will stay at a pleasant apartment hotel with beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea and just a few minutes from the hunting grounds. The accommodation is of a 3–4-star standard and offers comfortable double rooms with private toilets, making it easy to relax after a day in the hilly terrain.

There are indoor and outdoor relaxation areas, as well as a pool during the warmer months – perfect places to unwind between hunting trips. The restaurant serves delicious local dishes, often made with fresh ingredients from the coast, and evenings are usually spent chatting and reviewing the day's hunt with the guides.

The proximity of the accommodation to the hunting grounds and its peaceful location on the coast make it an ideal starting point for a well-organized and memorable mouflon hunt in Croatia.

The hunting ground

The hunting grounds along the Adriatic coast

The hunting area covers a vast and well-managed territory of approximately 24,000 hectares along the Croatian Adriatic coast, of which 4,000 hectares are specifically dedicated to mouflon hunting. Here, hunters encounter a unique combination of rugged mountain slopes, rocky terrain, and spectacular sea views—an environment that makes every stalk both challenging and unforgettable.

The area has a strong and stable population of mouflon, and the chances of encountering prize-winning rams are very good. During autumn and spring, the animals move intensively across the land, and depending on the season, conditions vary from tough mountain passes to more traditional stalking through dense vegetation where wild boar and sometimes bears can also be found.

The hunt is led by experienced and dedicated local guides who know the terrain down to the smallest detail and ensure a safe, well-organized, and memorable experience. The result is a genuine and dynamic hunt where the drama of nature, quiet moments, and heart-pounding occasions are woven together into a whole that you will never forget.

The forms of hunting

Mountain hunting with a distinct stalking character

Mouflon hunting in Croatia is a form of hunting where the mountain terrain dictates every step. Here we move through steep slopes, rocky passes, and open cliffs where the mouflon lives—alert, agile, and perfectly adapted to the heights.

The hunt is conducted on foot. We scan mountain ridges and ravines with binoculars, looking for the right buck and planning our approach based on wind, terrain, and animal movements. Once we start moving, we do so slowly and methodically, often uphill, where every movement must be carefully considered to avoid detection.

The older rams tend to stay high up, which makes both stalking and shooting positions technically demanding. Long distances, varying elevation differences, and the mountains' constantly shifting winds place demands on shooting skills and good preparation.

The guides know the area well and help you read the landscape, find the right animals, and determine when the conditions are right. Together, you shape a hunt that is as much about technique and focus as it is about the experience of moving through a dramatic mountain landscape.

This is hunting for those who appreciate a pure and challenging stalk in a mountain environment – inspiring, physical, and full of moments where nature sets the conditions.

The customer story

A memory from the mountains of Croatia, captured by one of our hunters

I have hunted mouflon before, but the experience in Croatia with Waidmann was something else entirely. The terrain along the coast is both challenging and fantastic, with rocky mountainsides, denser areas, and a view of the Adriatic Sea that you never tire of.

The guides were incredibly professional and knew exactly how the mouflon moved across the terrain. Each stalk was like a separate chapter where you really had to work with distance, wind, and terrain. When we finally got to the right ram, our pulses were racing and the feeling was indescribable.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Why should I book a trip with Waidmann?

Booking a hunting trip with Waidmann means security, quality and passion. We are one of Sweden's leading organizers of exclusive hunting trips and offer tailor-made experiences where every detail is carefully planned. With our personalized service, experienced guides and close partnerships with carefully selected hunting areas in Europe and Africa, we ensure that you get a hunting trip that exceeds your expectations - whether it's your first trip or your tenth.

With us, you're not just hunting - you're experiencing something bigger.

How does trophy handling and possible repatriation work?

After the hunt, we ensure that your trophy is handled professionally and according to all applicable rules. Our local partners are responsible for the initial handling - often boiling and preparing for transportation. If you choose a more advanced mount, such as a bow mount, this is often carried out directly on site by local taxidermists. After that, export documents, veterinary certificates and customs documents are handled in cooperation with our experienced freight forwarders.

Waidmann offers help with the entire process - from on-site handling to transportation home. We are there to support you every step of the way and are happy to provide advice on installation and the choice of conservator. At the same time, you as a customer have full freedom to choose to manage the process on your own if you prefer.

The delivery time for trophies varies depending on the country of hunting and the type of trophy, but we will keep you updated throughout the process.

How does insurance work?

Going on a hunting trip means new experiences and memories for life. Unfortunately, it's not possible to control everything that happens, and sometimes unexpected things happen that can cause problems. So it's good to be insured both before and during your trip.

Often the travel protection included in home insurance and credit cards does not cover everything you need or want.

To make you feel as safe as possible when traveling with us, we have chosen to cooperate with Europeiska ERV, which has over 100 years in the industry. Together with Europeiska ERV, we offer their Travel Insurance Plus and Cancellation Protection. If you want to know more or want to take out an insurance, please contact us and we will help you with this.

Are silencers allowed?

The rules for using silencers vary from country to country. In Sweden and many other European countries, silencers are allowed and often recommended for hunting. However, in some countries, such as Spain, Poland, Serbia and Croatia, they are prohibited.

When you book a trip with Waidmann, you will always be given clear information about what applies in the hunting country in question.

How can I bring my hunting weapon?

Traveling with hunting weapons is possible, but it requires proper documentation and planning. Exactly what is needed depends on the country you are traveling to, but in general the following applies:

  • European travel: For hunting trips within the EU, a European firearms pass is required, which you apply for at the Police. We recommend that you apply directly when booking, as the processing time can be several weeks. You also need to notify Swedish Customs that you are taking your firearm out of the country. In most cases, a special invitation or hunting license is also required from the country you are going to hunt in - we at Waidmann will make sure you get this in good time.
Read more on the Police website

  • Travel outside the EU: For example, for Africa or other continents, a temporary arms export via the Swedish Customs is usually required, as well as a hunting license, invitation and sometimes a temporary import license. Rules vary from country to country, but Waidmann ensures that everything is handled correctly from the start, so you avoid uncertainty and hassle upon entry.

  • Air transportation: Your weapon must be transported in an approved, lockable gun case or bag. Ammunition is packed separately according to the airline's security rules. Weapon transportation must be notified to the airline in advance - if Waidmann books your flight, we will handle this notification and the entire process for you.

Waidmann has extensive experience in hunting trips with weapons and is with you throughout the process. You will receive clear instructions and the right documentation in good time before departure. If you want to travel without your own weapon, it is often possible to rent weapons on site, depending on the destination.

Can I book as a single hunter or do we have to be a group?

You can definitely book as a solo hunter with Waidmann! We offer both planned trips for single hunters, as well as small and large groups.

We welcome all hunters, whether you are alone or traveling with a group. Many of our hunters find that a hunting trip is a great opportunity to make new friends in hunting. Several of our 'bonded' groups have continued to hunt together years after their first hunting trip with Waidmann.

For those looking for a more personalized experience, we tailor hunting trips for both individual hunters and smaller groups. We also arrange trips for larger groups, where we adapt the experience to the specific needs and wishes of the group. In addition, we have the opportunity to combine several smaller groups to create a common hunting experience, which provides both variety and community.

Whether you are traveling alone or with a group, you can be sure that at Waidmann we will customize your trip to give you the best possible experience.

How does booking and payment work?

Booking a hunting trip with Waidmann is easy and we offer several convenient payment options. Here are the steps for booking and payment:

  1. Booking and booking portal: Once you have booked your hunting trip, you will have access to your personal booking portal. In the booking portal, you pay a booking fee of 30% of the total amount of the trip, which must be paid within 10 days for the booking to be confirmed.
In the booking portal, you manage your entire trip - you fill in your contact details, make payments and receive ongoing updates and all important information before departure. Everything in one place.

  2. Flight booking: If Waidmann books the flight for you, the flight cost is paid in full as a second payment at the time of booking the flight.

  3. Final payment: The remaining amount is paid closer to departure, and the final payment must be made at least 40 days before departure.

  4. Trap fees, if any: If there are trap fees, these are payable 24 hours after returning from the trip.

  5. Payment: You can easily pay by card, Trustly, Swish or invoice. If you would like an invoice, please contact us and we will arrange it for you.

  6. Cancellation: In case of cancellation, the following cancellation fees apply:

    • 30% of the price of the trip between the time of booking and 40 days before departure.

    • 100% of the price of the trip between 39 days before departure and the day of departure itself.

    • Flights: If the flight is booked by Waidmann and you cancel the trip, the flight price is paid at 100%.

We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance, especially for exclusive or long-distance trips, to protect yourself against unforeseen events. We offer cancellation cover through ERV.

For questions about payment, booking or cancellation, you are always welcome to contact us. We are here to help you through the whole process.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend that you book your hunting trip at least 6-18 months in advance, especially if you have specific preferences for the type of hunt, destination or timing. Some trips, such as those to popular destinations in high season or with a limited number of places, book up quickly.

However, it is often no problem to book at short notice, as long as there is availability. We have good experience of helping hunters out at short notice when the opportunity exists.

For exclusive or tailor-made hunting trips, as well as trips outside Europe that require more extensive documentation and planning, it is a clear advantage to be in the know well in advance. It gives us a better chance of securing the best hunting grounds, accommodation and flight connections - and you'll have plenty of time to arrange permits, gun exports and other preparations at your leisure.

Can I go on a hunting trip as a beginner?

Absolutely, many of our guests are making their very first hunting trip abroad with us. We have a lot of experience in looking after first-timers and making sure you feel safe throughout the process.

We help you with everything from choosing the right type of hunt and destination to preparation, documentation and equipment. During the trip, you will always have access to experienced guides and organizers who will support you both practically and mentally in the hunt.

For those who do not have their own equipment or want to travel light, it is usually possible to rent weapons and other equipment on site. We also adapt the level of difficulty, organization and expectations to your level of experience.

Whether it's your first hunting trip or you've been out many times before, we'll make sure you have a personalized and professionally executed experience.
