Chamois hunting in the Slovenian Alps - a real mountain adventure

This is no ordinary hunting trip. It's a challenge in alpine terrain, an encounter with the mountains, and a battle against the elements where you'll feel both the pulse and presence of nature. Slovenia's alpine landscape is not just beautiful - it's dramatic. Steep slopes, snow-capped peaks and clear mountain air frame the hunt for the legendary chamois.

When we arrive in Slovenia, we are met by our local guides who know the mountains like the back of their hands. They know where the chamois move and how best to approach them in the demanding environment. Their experience is crucial - both for success and for appreciating the nuances of the hunt.

Hunting takes place from early morning until the last rays of the sun. There will be stalking and hiking in rough terrain, often at altitude and with long shooting distances - so make sure your rifle is well aimed for shots at 200 meters and above. Both goats and bucks are hunted as trophies.

Accommodation is adapted to where we hunt. In some areas we stay in small mountain hotels, in others in charming lodges overlooking the valleys.

This is a trip for those who want more than just hunting - who want to experience a real mountain adventure with all that it entails.

Shooting fees

Trap fees are shown in Euros (€) including Slovenian VAT (22%).

More information on CIC assessments can be found here.

Shooting fees

What is a Shooting fee:

A trapping fee is a cost incurred when a game animal is trapped during a hunting trip. The fee is often based on the animal's trophy size, species, sex, weight - for example, the shape of its horns or tusks. Trapping fees are a common part of hunting management in many countries and serve as an important incentive for responsible hunting.

Why are there Shooting fees:

Shooting fees are an important part of the setup of many of our trips, and they enable responsible and long-term wildlife management. The revenue from these fees is used by local hunting organizations to fund all their activities - from inventory and game management to land maintenance, staff salaries, game damage prevention and administration. Without shooting fees, it would be difficult to conduct hunting that is both sustainable and well-organized.

Important to consider:

The amount of the shooting fee depends on what is shot. In some cases, there is a fixed price per game, while in others it is determined by the type and size of the trophy. It is also important to note that in some cases, game shot or injured and not found may be subject to a fee.

And remember - hunting is hunting. There are no guarantees about what will happen during the hunting days. Game movements, weather conditions, hunting luck and other factors always come into play. This is what makes hunting alive, exciting and real.

Another important factor is the hunter's own skill. Experience, reaction time, accuracy and the ability to read the terrain vary greatly between different hunters. Our job is to create the best possible conditions through well-organized arrangements and experienced guides - but the hunt itself and the result are always on nature's and the hunter's terms.

On the payment of trap fees:

Payment is generally made as follows: When you return from your trip, you will receive a summary list of the game you have killed and the total amount of the trapping fees, in your booking portal. This sum must be paid within three days, unless otherwise agreed. The measurement of any trophies is usually done by the organizer and forms the basis of the final fee.

Our promise to you:

At Waidmann, transparency and security are always in focus. You will be fully informed about what is included in your hunting trip and what possible trapping fees may apply - no surprises. We only work with professional and reputable operators who work according to clear and ethical guidelines. You can rest assured that everything is correct, so you can focus on the hunt and the experience.

Chamois hunting in SLOVENIA

This is the trip for those who want to experience chamois hunting at its best!

Welcome to a classic chamois hunt in the heart of Europe. The Slovenian chamois offers challenge, nature experience and trophies of high class - a hunt for those who like to move in rough terrain with precision and patience.

On site, we are met by our experienced hunting guides who know the land well and are skilled at assessing the size and behavior of chamois.

The hunt itself takes place on foot in steep mountain environments, from morning to evening. There is a lot of stalking, sometimes longer hikes, and often shots at 200 meters or more - so a well-fired weapon for longer distances is a must. Both goats and bucks are hunted as trophies.

Accommodation varies depending on which part of the hunting area we are in. We stay either in a hunting lodge or in a small hotel near the mountains. The accommodation is of a good standard and you usually share a double room, but single rooms can be booked if desired.

This is a physical hunt in a magnificent alpine environment - perfect for those looking for a real hunting adventure combined with comfort and well-organized logistics.

Daily program

Join us on an intense and physical hunt in a spectacular mountain environment where both goats and bucks are hunted for trophies. With experienced guides, long shots and alpine pyrsch, this is a trip for those who seek challenge, precision and adventure.

Day 1: Departure for the Slovenian mountains!

We arrive in Slovenia, once there we are met by a transfer or our guides and driven to the accommodation - a cozy lodge at the foot of the Alps, depending on where the hunt will take place. Here there is time to unpack, familiarize yourself with the surroundings and check the weapon if desired. In the evening, dinner awaits and a review of the hunt together with the guides.

Days 2-4: The start of the hunting days

After an early breakfast, we are picked up each morning by our guides. We drive up to the hunting area and start the hunt on foot, often with a hike directly from the car or accommodation. The terrain is alpine and at times physically demanding, with scouting along slopes, ridges and alpine meadows.

Every day we are out from dawn to dusk. We hunt both goats and bucks for trophies, and place great emphasis on the quality of the animals. The guides are very skilled and help with both judgment and tactics.

We will have a light lunch in the field and return to the accommodation in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Day 5: We say thank you for this magical hunting adventure.

After a nice closing dinner and a good night's sleep, we start the day with a hearty breakfast and then check out and leave the accommodation to head for the ferry that will take us back to Sweden.

The accommodation

Accommodation near the mountains - comfort after the day's hunt

The accommodation is adapted to the area we hunt in, but always with proximity to the mountains and nature. We stay either in a rustic lodge with an alpine feel or in a smaller hotel with a personal atmosphere. Here, comfortable beds, hot showers and good food await after long days in the terrain. You'll usually stay in a double room with another hunter, but single rooms can be arranged at an additional cost. Meals are served on site and the evenings offer relaxation, fellowship and catch-up on the day's hunt.

The hunting ground in the Alps

A wild and varied Alpine environment

Slovenia's hunting grounds offer a unique combination of dramatic Alpine terrain and lush, protected nature. The areas are often located high up in the mountains, where steep cliffs, alpine meadows and mountain forests create the perfect environment for the chamois way of life.

The terrain is varied and can be both challenging and exciting to move around in. There are open areas where you can scout for long distances, but also dense areas with bushes and rocks where the game finds shelter and where the hunt requires extra stealth and patience. Hunters need to be well prepared for the physical demands of hunting, often involving long day hikes in steep and rocky terrain.

The lands are also relatively untouched and wild, providing a genuine hunting experience with the chance to encounter animals in their natural environment, far from the noise of civilization. The guides have a good knowledge of each area and can help plan the hunt for the best possible trophies.

The forms of hunting

Mountain hunting in the Slovenian Alps

Gem hunting in Slovenia is one of Europe's most classic forms of mountain hunting. Here we move in high-mountain terrain, where mists dance across alpine meadows and mountainsides plunge dramatically into valleys. It is in this wild and inaccessible environment that the chamois lives - vigilant, fast-footed and perfectly adapted to the mountains.

The hunt takes place as a pyrsch - stealth hunting on foot - where we walk at a calm but determined pace, scout with binoculars, judge distances and sneak up on the right animal. It is a form of hunting that requires patience, physical strength and experience. The terrain is often steep, rocky and unpredictable, making every step meaningful and every shot an achievement.

The guides know the land well and help to read the landscape, find the right trophy and decide when it's time to set up. Shooting distances are often long - 200 meters or more - so it's important to have a well-loaded gun and good shooting skills.

This is hunting for those who want to challenge themselves, both physically and mentally, while experiencing nature for real - raw, beautiful and unpredictable. Slovenia offers mountain hunting in its purest form.

experience the thrill of the hunt!

Get a first-hand look at what your next hunting trip could look like

In this video, you'll get an up-close and personal look at what it's like to hunt chamois in the mountains of Slovenia. From the early morning hike to the exciting moment of the shot, experience the hunt, the nature and the community first hand. Let the images and sounds take you on an adventure you'll never forget!

The customer story

Here we share a travel story from one of our guests who joined the hunting trip last year!

I've done a lot of hunting in my life, but nothing like this experience. Hunting chamois in the Slovenian Alps was something completely different - both physically and mentally. We started every morning before dawn, and just hiking up the mountains was an adventure in itself. The views, the silence and the clean air made you almost forget that you were actually out hunting.

We moved silently through steep passes and over rocky ledges. Once we lay for over an hour waiting for a buck to come out of a shady rocky area. When it did, the shot was at over 240 meters. It was not an easy shot, but with the guide's help it was right.

The accommodation was beyond expectations - a small hotel with good food and a glass of wine in the evening after long days in the mountains. It didn't feel like a "ready-made package tour" but like real hunting - for real. I will never forget this, and I know I will be back.

Tips and advice!

Things to consider before booking!

Booking a hunting trip is often a long-awaited experience - and with the right preparation, it will be smooth, safe and memorable. Here are some key tips and advice to help you get the most out of your trip:

Choose the right hunt for you

Whether you are an experienced hunter or traveling for the first time, we will help you find the right trip based on your goals, experience and hunting style. Do you want to experience the thrill of a Monteria in Spain, a stealth hunt in Hungary or perhaps a wake hunt for wild boar? We will guide you in the right direction.

Be flexible - Hunting is Hunting

Hunting is always on nature's terms. The weather, the movement of the game and other circumstances can affect the outcome. Although the hunt is the goal, it is often the experience itself - the nature, the camaraderie and the thrill - that becomes the strongest memory.

We're with you all the way

When you book with Waidmann, you get access to a dedicated team with extensive experience in hunting travel. We're on hand before, during and after your trip - whether you need help with trip selection, documentation, gun logistics or something unexpected along the way.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Why should I book a trip with Waidmann?

Booking a hunting trip with Waidmann means security, quality and passion. We are one of Sweden's leading organizers of exclusive hunting trips and offer tailor-made experiences where every detail is carefully planned. With our personalized service, experienced guides and close partnerships with carefully selected hunting areas in Europe and Africa, we ensure that you get a hunting trip that exceeds your expectations - whether it's your first trip or your tenth.

With us, you're not just hunting - you're experiencing something bigger.

How does trophy handling and possible repatriation work?

After the hunt, we ensure that your trophy is handled professionally and according to all applicable rules. Our local partners are responsible for the initial handling - often boiling and preparing for transportation. If you choose a more advanced mount, such as a bow mount, this is often carried out directly on site by local taxidermists. After that, export documents, veterinary certificates and customs documents are handled in cooperation with our experienced freight forwarders.

Waidmann offers help with the entire process - from on-site handling to transportation home. We are there to support you every step of the way and are happy to provide advice on installation and the choice of conservator. At the same time, you as a customer have full freedom to choose to manage the process on your own if you prefer.

The delivery time for trophies varies depending on the country of hunting and the type of trophy, but we will keep you updated throughout the process.

How does insurance work?

Going on a hunting trip means new experiences and memories for life. Unfortunately, it's not possible to control everything that happens, and sometimes unexpected things happen that can cause problems. So it's good to be insured both before and during your trip.

Often the travel protection included in home insurance and credit cards does not cover everything you need or want.

To make you feel as safe as possible when traveling with us, we have chosen to cooperate with Europeiska ERV, which has over 100 years in the industry. Together with Europeiska ERV, we offer their Travel Insurance Plus and Cancellation Protection. If you want to know more or want to take out an insurance, please contact us and we will help you with this.

Are silencers allowed?

The rules for using silencers vary from country to country. In Sweden and many other European countries, silencers are allowed and often recommended for hunting. However, in some countries, such as Spain, Poland, Serbia and Croatia, they are prohibited.

When you book a trip with Waidmann, you will always be given clear information about what applies in the hunting country in question.

How can I bring my hunting weapon?

Traveling with hunting weapons is possible, but it requires proper documentation and planning. Exactly what is needed depends on the country you are traveling to, but in general the following applies:

  • European travel: For hunting trips within the EU, a European firearms pass is required, which you apply for at the Police. We recommend that you apply directly when booking, as the processing time can be several weeks. You also need to notify Swedish Customs that you are taking your firearm out of the country. In most cases, a special invitation or hunting license is also required from the country you are going to hunt in - we at Waidmann will make sure you get this in good time.
Read more on the Police website

  • Travel outside the EU: For example, for Africa or other continents, a temporary arms export via the Swedish Customs is usually required, as well as a hunting license, invitation and sometimes a temporary import license. Rules vary from country to country, but Waidmann ensures that everything is handled correctly from the start, so you avoid uncertainty and hassle upon entry.

  • Air transportation: Your weapon must be transported in an approved, lockable gun case or bag. Ammunition is packed separately according to the airline's security rules. Weapon transportation must be notified to the airline in advance - if Waidmann books your flight, we will handle this notification and the entire process for you.

Waidmann has extensive experience in hunting trips with weapons and is with you throughout the process. You will receive clear instructions and the right documentation in good time before departure. If you want to travel without your own weapon, it is often possible to rent weapons on site, depending on the destination.

Can I book as a single hunter or do we have to be a group?

You can definitely book as a solo hunter with Waidmann! We offer both planned trips for single hunters, as well as small and large groups.

We welcome all hunters, whether you are alone or traveling with a group. Many of our hunters find that a hunting trip is a great opportunity to make new friends in hunting. Several of our 'bonded' groups have continued to hunt together years after their first hunting trip with Waidmann.

For those looking for a more personalized experience, we tailor hunting trips for both individual hunters and smaller groups. We also arrange trips for larger groups, where we adapt the experience to the specific needs and wishes of the group. In addition, we have the opportunity to combine several smaller groups to create a common hunting experience, which provides both variety and community.

Whether you are traveling alone or with a group, you can be sure that at Waidmann we will customize your trip to give you the best possible experience.

How does booking and payment work?

Booking a hunting trip with Waidmann is easy and we offer several convenient payment options. Here are the steps for booking and payment:

  1. Booking and booking portal: Once you have booked your hunting trip, you will have access to your personal booking portal. In the booking portal, you pay a booking fee of 30% of the total amount of the trip, which must be paid within 10 days for the booking to be confirmed.
In the booking portal, you manage your entire trip - you fill in your contact details, make payments and receive ongoing updates and all important information before departure. Everything in one place.

  2. Flight booking: If Waidmann books the flight for you, the flight cost is paid in full as a second payment at the time of booking the flight.

  3. Final payment: The remaining amount is paid closer to departure, and the final payment must be made at least 40 days before departure.

  4. Trap fees, if any: If there are trap fees, these are payable 24 hours after returning from the trip.

  5. Payment: You can easily pay by card, Trustly, Swish or invoice. If you would like an invoice, please contact us and we will arrange it for you.

  6. Cancellation: In case of cancellation, the following cancellation fees apply:

    • 30% of the price of the trip between the time of booking and 40 days before departure.

    • 100% of the price of the trip between 39 days before departure and the day of departure itself.

    • Flights: If the flight is booked by Waidmann and you cancel the trip, the flight price is paid at 100%.

We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance, especially for exclusive or long-distance trips, to protect yourself against unforeseen events. We offer cancellation cover through ERV.

For questions about payment, booking or cancellation, you are always welcome to contact us. We are here to help you through the whole process.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend that you book your hunting trip at least 6-18 months in advance, especially if you have specific preferences for the type of hunt, destination or timing. Some trips, such as those to popular destinations in high season or with a limited number of places, book up quickly.

However, it is often no problem to book at short notice, as long as there is availability. We have good experience of helping hunters out at short notice when the opportunity exists.

For exclusive or tailor-made hunting trips, as well as trips outside Europe that require more extensive documentation and planning, it is a clear advantage to be in the know well in advance. It gives us a better chance of securing the best hunting grounds, accommodation and flight connections - and you'll have plenty of time to arrange permits, gun exports and other preparations at your leisure.

Can I go on a hunting trip as a beginner?

Absolutely, many of our guests are making their very first hunting trip abroad with us. We have a lot of experience in looking after first-timers and making sure you feel safe throughout the process.

We help you with everything from choosing the right type of hunt and destination to preparation, documentation and equipment. During the trip, you will always have access to experienced guides and organizers who will support you both practically and mentally in the hunt.

For those who do not have their own equipment or want to travel light, it is usually possible to rent weapons and other equipment on site. We also adapt the level of difficulty, organization and expectations to your level of experience.

Whether it's your first hunting trip or you've been out many times before, we'll make sure you have a personalized and professionally executed experience.
