Fallow deer

The fallow deer is smaller than the red deer but fast and incredibly vigilant, with its characteristic spotted coat providing perfect camouflage.

Fallow deer

The fallow deer weighs between 50 and 90 kilograms and is known for its spotted coat, which provides effective camouflage in the shady environments of the forest. It thrives in denser forest and scrub and is very mobile and vigilant. During the autumn rut, males make loud calls and compete for the females' affections. Hunting requires patience, quiet movement and good marksmanship as the animal is fast and easily frightened.

  • Type of hunting: Wake and drive hunting.
  • Geographical distribution: Europe, from Western Europe to Western Asia.
  • Tip: Be quiet and well camouflaged, keep an eye on wind direction and plan shots carefully.
