Experience authentic hunting in Slovakia's wild mountains and mist-shrouded valleys

Join us on a hunting trip where the wild forests, mountains, and mist-shrouded valleys of the Carpathians provide the backdrop for one of Europe's most thrilling driven hunts. Here you will encounter a hunting tradition that touches both your heart and your body – as dog handlers drive through the terrain and shots echo across the mountain slopes.

In Slovakia, an action-packed hunt awaits with strong populations of wild boar, red deer, fallow deer, mouflon, and roe deer. It is not uncommon for 20–30 animals to be shot per day, making each hunt as intense as it is unpredictable and full of possibilities. After the day's hunt, we gather around the traditional game parade before the evening transitions into local flavors, warmth, and hunting camaraderie at our mountain hotel.

This is a trip for those who want to experience the most authentic and raw nature, deeply rooted traditions, and hunting that truly touches the soul.

Shooting fees

This is how trap fees work in Slovakia:

To create the best hunting experience, the driven hunt is organized for groups of 21-25 hunters. If the group is smaller, we supplement it with local hunters.

The price per hunter is then calculated based on how many animals the group collectively kills during the hunting day – simple, fair, and transparent. In other words, the number of game animals killed per group during a hunting day determines the amount each hunter pays.

What is a Shooting fee:

A bag fee is a charge that is levied when game is bagged during a hunting trip. The fee is often based on the size, species, sex, and weight of the animal. Bag fees are a common part of hunting management in many countries and serve as an important tool for promoting responsible hunting.

Why are there Shooting fees:

Hunting fees are an important part of wildlife management on many of our trips, and they enable responsible and long-term wildlife management. The revenue from these fees is used by local hunting organizations to finance their entire operations – from inventory and wildlife management to land maintenance, staff salaries, wildlife damage prevention, and administration. Without hunting fees, it would be difficult to conduct hunting that is both sustainable and well-organized.

Important to consider:

The amount of the shooting fee depends on what is shot. In some cases, there is a fixed price per game, while in others it is determined by the type and size of the trophy. It is also important to note that in some cases, game shot or injured and not found may be subject to a fee.

And remember - hunting is hunting. There are no guarantees about what will happen during the hunting days. Game movements, weather conditions, hunting luck and other factors always come into play. This is what makes hunting alive, exciting and real.

Another important factor is the hunter's own skill. Experience, reaction time, accuracy and the ability to read the terrain vary greatly between different hunters. Our job is to create the best possible conditions through well-organized arrangements and experienced guides - but the hunt itself and the result are always on nature's and the hunter's terms.

On the payment of trap fees:

Payment is generally made as follows: When you return from your trip, you will receive a summary list of the game you have killed and the total amount of the trapping fees, in your booking portal. This sum must be paid within three days, unless otherwise agreed. The measurement of any trophies is usually done by the organizer and forms the basis of the final fee.

Our promise to you:

At Waidmann, transparency and security are always in focus. You will be fully informed about what is included in your hunting trip and what possible trapping fees may apply - no surprises. We only work with professional and reputable operators who work according to clear and ethical guidelines. You can rest assured that everything is correct, so you can focus on the hunt and the experience.

hunting in Slovakia

A hunting experience for those who want excitement, camaraderie, and powerful impressions

This driven hunt is ideal for those seeking an intense, traditional, and well-organized hunting experience in truly wild nature. Slovakia offers a hunting environment where mountains, dense forests, and open valleys create the perfect conditions for action-packed drives with plenty of game contact. This is a trip for those who appreciate a fast pace, varied hunting grounds, and the opportunity to hunt several species in the same day.

The trip begins with a convenient flight to Slovakia, where you will be met by the hunting organization. A transfer will take you to our accommodation in the Slovakian mountains, where you will settle in for three action-packed days of hunting. The mornings begin at dawn with coffee and a briefing before we head out to the first drive of the day. During the day, we usually hunt three to five hunting grounds where dog handlers and hunting teams push and chase wild boar, red deer and calves, fallow deer, mouflon and roe deer. There are often plenty of opportunities to shoot.

Between the hunts, delicious food is served and there is time to relax before we end the day with a traditional game parade and a warming after-hunt. The evenings are characterized by hunting camaraderie, hearty meals, and moments where the day's impressions can settle before the next morning's adventure.

Daily program

Day 1: Arrival in the mountains and forests of Slovakia

We fly from Sweden and land in Vienna, where our local hunting hosts meet us at the airport. A transfer takes us through Slovakia's beautiful mountainous regions to our accommodation, where the hunting adventure begins.

Once we arrive, we check in, unpack, and have a moment to settle in after the journey. The evening begins with a welcome gathering where we go through the hunting plan, safety procedures, and the program for the coming days. This is followed by a hearty dinner that sets the right mood for the hunt ahead.

Days 2-4: The start of the hunting days

After an early breakfast, we meet our experienced hunting guides who take us out to the first hunting ground of the day. The morning is often the most intense time of the day when hunting parties and dog handlers set the game in motion and the terrain is filled with movement. Here we hunt wild boar, red deer and calves, fallow deer, mouflon and roe deer in varied and beautiful terrain.

During the day, we usually hunt three to five pheasants with breaks for rest, lunch, and time to recharge before the next drive. The hunt is characterized by pace, focus, and many opportunities to shoot.

When the last hunt of the day is over, we gather for the traditional game parade, a moment that shows respect for the game and for the hunting culture that characterizes Slovakia. The evening continues with a hearty dinner, good conversation, and that sense of community that only arises when you share intense days in the forest.

Day 5: Return home after an unforgettable hunting experience

After three full days of hunting, we start the morning with a final breakfast before packing up and checking out. A transfer takes us back to the airport, where our journey home awaits. We take with us memories of fast-paced hunts, strong traditions, and a hunting trip that truly touches the heart.

The accommodation

Stay in the heart of the Slovenian hunting paradise!

During your hunting trip, you will stay in pleasant and welcoming accommodation close to the hunting grounds. Here you will find a relaxing environment to unwind in after a day of intense hunting, whether you are staying in a hotel, guesthouse, or hunting lodge.

The rooms are comfortable and functional, designed to give you the rest you need before the next day's adventures. The atmosphere is warm and homely, and the staff are known for their hospitality and care for their guests.

Meals are hearty and homemade, often featuring local ingredients that give you a taste of Slovakian food culture. The group gathers here every evening to enjoy good food, recharge their batteries, and share the day's experiences.

The hunting ground

Hunting grounds that deliver authentic hunting experiences

The driven hunt takes place in an area where the forest is truly alive. Here you will encounter dense sections, more open stretches, and hilly terrain that create natural passes and perfect conditions for setting the game in motion. These are lands where wild boar, red deer, calves, fallow deer, mouflon, and roe deer roam naturally, and where each hunt offers a new kind of excitement.

The hunting grounds are located in western Slovakia, an area known for its stable game stocks and well-managed administration. The combination of varied terrain and abundant game makes hunting both engaging and fair. Here you get a driven hunt where things really happen.

The local guides have extensive knowledge of the terrain and will place you in positions based on the movement patterns of the game and the conditions on the day. The result is a hunting experience that feels authentic, active, and full of those moments that make driven hunting so special.

The forms of hunting

Driven hunting – hunting with passion and tradition

On this trip, you will experience real driven hunting – a form of hunting where the barking of dogs, the movements of the game, and the interaction between the hunters create a unique atmosphere.

At dawn, when the ground is still damp and the air cold, we gather in anticipation of the day's hunt. You walk to your pass, rifle in hand, feeling every sound in the forest take on meaning.

The drive moves through the forest, the dogs work purposefully and the drovers follow the ground with practiced steps. Every creak and bark can be a sign of the presence of game. It's all about being alert, reading the terrain and being in the right place at the right time.

But driven hunting is more than shots and game - it is an interaction between man, dog and nature. A community that emerges at the end of the day, often around the fire or in the hunting lodge, where stories and experiences are shared. Here, tradition and the joy of hunting meet in an unforgettable experience.

The customer story

A memory from the hunting trip, captured by one of our guests:

Already during the first drive, I understood why Slovakia is famous for its driven hunts. The dogs had just been released when I heard movement further into the forest. First, a few deer passed by, then a herd of wild boars came straight through the thicket. The guide had placed me in exactly the right spot.

When a fine boar broke out at the edge, I got my position and the shot hit where it should. The rest of the day continued at a good pace with several fine situations. Ending with a traditional game parade made the experience complete.

A really good driven hunt, well organized and memorable without being contrived. I would love to go back there again.

Tips and advice!

Things to consider before booking!

Booking a hunting trip is often a long-awaited experience - and with the right preparation, it will be smooth, safe and memorable. Here are some key tips and advice to help you get the most out of your trip:

Choose the right hunt for you

Whether you are an experienced hunter or traveling for the first time, we will help you find the right trip based on your goals, experience and hunting style. Do you want to experience the thrill of a Monteria in Spain, a stealth hunt in Hungary or perhaps a wake hunt for wild boar? We will guide you in the right direction.

Be flexible - Hunting is Hunting

Hunting is always on nature's terms. The weather, the movement of the game and other circumstances can affect the outcome. Although the hunt is the goal, it is often the experience itself - the nature, the camaraderie and the thrill - that becomes the strongest memory.

We're with you all the way

When you book with Waidmann, you get access to a dedicated team with extensive experience in hunting travel. We're on hand before, during and after your trip - whether you need help with trip selection, documentation, gun logistics or something unexpected along the way.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Why should I book a trip with Waidmann?

Booking a hunting trip with Waidmann means security, quality and passion. We are one of Sweden's leading organizers of exclusive hunting trips and offer tailor-made experiences where every detail is carefully planned. With our personalized service, experienced guides and close partnerships with carefully selected hunting areas in Europe and Africa, we ensure that you get a hunting trip that exceeds your expectations - whether it's your first trip or your tenth.

With us, you're not just hunting - you're experiencing something bigger.

How does trophy handling and possible repatriation work?

After the hunt, we ensure that your trophy is handled professionally and according to all applicable rules. Our local partners are responsible for the initial handling - often boiling and preparing for transportation. If you choose a more advanced mount, such as a bow mount, this is often carried out directly on site by local taxidermists. After that, export documents, veterinary certificates and customs documents are handled in cooperation with our experienced freight forwarders.

Waidmann offers help with the entire process - from on-site handling to transportation home. We are there to support you every step of the way and are happy to provide advice on installation and the choice of conservator. At the same time, you as a customer have full freedom to choose to manage the process on your own if you prefer.

The delivery time for trophies varies depending on the country of hunting and the type of trophy, but we will keep you updated throughout the process.

How does insurance work?

Going on a hunting trip means new experiences and memories for life. Unfortunately, it's not possible to control everything that happens, and sometimes unexpected things happen that can cause problems. So it's good to be insured both before and during your trip.

Often the travel protection included in home insurance and credit cards does not cover everything you need or want.

To make you feel as safe as possible when traveling with us, we have chosen to cooperate with Europeiska ERV, which has over 100 years in the industry. Together with Europeiska ERV, we offer their Travel Insurance Plus and Cancellation Protection. If you want to know more or want to take out an insurance, please contact us and we will help you with this.

Are silencers allowed?

The rules for using silencers vary from country to country. In Sweden and many other European countries, silencers are allowed and often recommended for hunting. However, in some countries, such as Spain, Poland, Serbia and Croatia, they are prohibited.

When you book a trip with Waidmann, you will always be given clear information about what applies in the hunting country in question.

How can I bring my hunting weapon?

Traveling with hunting weapons is possible, but it requires proper documentation and planning. Exactly what is needed depends on the country you are traveling to, but in general the following applies:

  • European travel: For hunting trips within the EU, a European firearms pass is required, which you apply for at the Police. We recommend that you apply directly when booking, as the processing time can be several weeks. You also need to notify Swedish Customs that you are taking your firearm out of the country. In most cases, a special invitation or hunting license is also required from the country you are going to hunt in - we at Waidmann will make sure you get this in good time.
Read more on the Police website

  • Travel outside the EU: For example, for Africa or other continents, a temporary arms export via the Swedish Customs is usually required, as well as a hunting license, invitation and sometimes a temporary import license. Rules vary from country to country, but Waidmann ensures that everything is handled correctly from the start, so you avoid uncertainty and hassle upon entry.

  • Air transportation: Your weapon must be transported in an approved, lockable gun case or bag. Ammunition is packed separately according to the airline's security rules. Weapon transportation must be notified to the airline in advance - if Waidmann books your flight, we will handle this notification and the entire process for you.

Waidmann has extensive experience in hunting trips with weapons and is with you throughout the process. You will receive clear instructions and the right documentation in good time before departure. If you want to travel without your own weapon, it is often possible to rent weapons on site, depending on the destination.

Can I book as a single hunter or do we have to be a group?

You can definitely book as a solo hunter with Waidmann! We offer both planned trips for single hunters, as well as small and large groups.

We welcome all hunters, whether you are alone or traveling with a group. Many of our hunters find that a hunting trip is a great opportunity to make new friends in hunting. Several of our 'bonded' groups have continued to hunt together years after their first hunting trip with Waidmann.

For those looking for a more personalized experience, we tailor hunting trips for both individual hunters and smaller groups. We also arrange trips for larger groups, where we adapt the experience to the specific needs and wishes of the group. In addition, we have the opportunity to combine several smaller groups to create a common hunting experience, which provides both variety and community.

Whether you are traveling alone or with a group, you can be sure that at Waidmann we will customize your trip to give you the best possible experience.

How does booking and payment work?

Booking a hunting trip with Waidmann is easy and we offer several convenient payment options. Here are the steps for booking and payment:

  1. Booking and booking portal: Once you have booked your hunting trip, you will have access to your personal booking portal. In the booking portal, you pay a booking fee of 30% of the total amount of the trip, which must be paid within 10 days for the booking to be confirmed.
In the booking portal, you manage your entire trip - you fill in your contact details, make payments and receive ongoing updates and all important information before departure. Everything in one place.

  2. Flight booking: If Waidmann books the flight for you, the flight cost is paid in full as a second payment at the time of booking the flight.

  3. Final payment: The remaining amount is paid closer to departure, and the final payment must be made at least 40 days before departure.

  4. Trap fees, if any: If there are trap fees, these are payable 24 hours after returning from the trip.

  5. Payment: You can easily pay by card, Trustly, Swish or invoice. If you would like an invoice, please contact us and we will arrange it for you.

  6. Cancellation: In case of cancellation, the following cancellation fees apply:

    • 30% of the price of the trip between the time of booking and 40 days before departure.

    • 100% of the price of the trip between 39 days before departure and the day of departure itself.

    • Flights: If the flight is booked by Waidmann and you cancel the trip, the flight price is paid at 100%.

We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance, especially for exclusive or long-distance trips, to protect yourself against unforeseen events. We offer cancellation cover through ERV.

For questions about payment, booking or cancellation, you are always welcome to contact us. We are here to help you through the whole process.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend that you book your hunting trip at least 6-18 months in advance, especially if you have specific preferences for the type of hunt, destination or timing. Some trips, such as those to popular destinations in high season or with a limited number of places, book up quickly.

However, it is often no problem to book at short notice, as long as there is availability. We have good experience of helping hunters out at short notice when the opportunity exists.

For exclusive or tailor-made hunting trips, as well as trips outside Europe that require more extensive documentation and planning, it is a clear advantage to be in the know well in advance. It gives us a better chance of securing the best hunting grounds, accommodation and flight connections - and you'll have plenty of time to arrange permits, gun exports and other preparations at your leisure.

Can I go on a hunting trip as a beginner?

Absolutely, many of our guests are making their very first hunting trip abroad with us. We have a lot of experience in looking after first-timers and making sure you feel safe throughout the process.

We help you with everything from choosing the right type of hunt and destination to preparation, documentation and equipment. During the trip, you will always have access to experienced guides and organizers who will support you both practically and mentally in the hunt.

For those who do not have their own equipment or want to travel light, it is usually possible to rent weapons and other equipment on site. We also adapt the level of difficulty, organization and expectations to your level of experience.

Whether it's your first hunting trip or you've been out many times before, we'll make sure you have a personalized and professionally executed experience.
